World Championship slots
In total, 100 slots to the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i, will be allocated to finishers of IRONMAN 70.3 Hefei and IRONMAN 70.3 Xiamen. There will also be 50 age-group qualifying slots for the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.
IRONMAN World Championship slots will be allocated as follows:
1) IRONMAN 70.3 Hefei will offer 50 age group slots and IRONMAN 70.3 Xiamen will offer 40, allocated proportionally as per our global world championship protocol.
2) The remaining 10 slots will be reserved for finishers of both events. Athletes who compete in both 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 Xiamen and 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 Hefei will be ranked based on their combined overall age-group placing in both events. For example, an athlete who was the 6th overall finisher in Hefei and the 8th overall finisher in Xiamen would be assigned a 14. The top ten athletes on this list who had not already qualified for Kona would each be offered a slot, and slots would roll down in the usual manner. In the case of a tie based on the combined placing, the faster aggregate finish time of both events will be used.
